"And though it may never be as we imagined,
we'll live a life of dreams that might have been."
(Copyright Chris B. - 1990)
Well I have started my journey - this one is the journey to publish my music. It begins with dusting off the old songs, transcribing them into the computer from the scraps of paper they were written on, recording and then publishing.
The other night I started the transcribing process. I have also been playing through the songs - twice this week.
That is more than I have picked up my guitar in the past 3 months!
So I am making progress. I have even found someone who has the equipment to do a professional recording. When things come together like that, it's hard to deny that you are on the right track!

Joy in the Journey
"Well there's joy in the journey, love along the way.
And if you are happy here I hope that you will stay.
For the road is long and the way is hard
But you don't have to cry.
'Cause there's joy in the journey
When friendship's by your side." Chris B. (1995)
This is my second foray into blogging. My first blog, Running Adventures in an Extraordinary World, has been, and continues to be, writings about my journey in running - first to run a marathon, and now to experience other running adventures.
This blog will focus on my music.
I have been playing guitar since the 7th or 8th grade (around 1975) and began writing my own songs in high school - the first song I still have is from 1979. It started because I liked poetry and didn't know enough other songs - so I made up my own. It then grew into a way to express my "journey" as a young Christian, going through life and struggling with my own sinful self. It became my personal meditation and not something I shared too often. Much of my early music (pre-1995) is religious in nature. I wrote many of those songs while attending a Christian college in western PA (Geneva College).
My musical pursuits since I finished college (1984) has been on and off. I haven't written many songs in the past 5 years or so. When I have written songs, some have been religious and some just about life in general. But I believe that my music is a gift that I have squandered - that I have buried in the sand. I want to record some of the best songs so they are not lost after I am gone. A number of folks have urged me to get my music published.
With today's technology with the web, podcasting, etc. I think my opportunity to record and publish my music is greater than ever. No need to hook up with an agent or a fancy record label. I can just put the music out there and see what happens. I haven't done the research to see how this is done (so if anyone who knows a good starting point is reading this, feel free to comment with some pointers).
This blog is a way to encourage me to take the journey. To play my guitar as regularly as I get out and run. To meditate and ponder life through the music. And to work toward making that music available to others to enjoy.
So now we press onward...
